We stand on the threshold of a hotter and drier earth and I believe we need to act now to avoid climate catastrophe. Sojol Ltd is at the forefront of innovative solutions to create healthier homes improving air quality and thermal comfort while working towards carbon neutral buildings. We believe investment into technical innovation is key to providing a long-lasting future for ourselves, the environment as well as business. In fact, we recognize that ‘business as usual’ is no longer sustainable unless it evolves to ensure a future for this generation and those to come.

Sojol has developed many products in this space from a unique cooling system to a versatile fan with improved performance to a vertical axis wind turbine (VWAT). All these products have been inspired by nature, in particular the beautiful helix and golden spiral - nature’s architecture. The golden spiral is a logarithmic spiral whose growth factor is φ, the golden ratio of 1.618 known to ancient Egypt as Phi. Logarithmic spiral growths allow organisms to grow without changing shape (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_spiral). Sojol has taken an empirical approach using mainly simulation methods to find what works, and in the process discovered that reconfiguring our inventions according to the shapes of nature provided measurable and significant improvements in performance.

One of these products is a cooling system. Global demand for cooling will increase, but current inefficient technologies will only contribute further to warming and drying the planet by using harmful refrigerants or evaporative cooling using potable water. (Already there is a crisis of ground water depletion in many parts of the world that depend on this water for food production.)

According to GCP (https://globalcoolingprize.org/about-the-global-cooling-prize/the-need/) ‘30 percent of the world’s population is exposed to potentially dangerous heat conditions and there will be a fivefold increase in demand for cooling by 2050.’

Sojol provides both a cooling ‘system’ as well as individual technological advancements of the components in this system to provide the customer and/or user with affordable cooling and a significantly reduced environmental footprint.

Sojol’s cooling solution integrates:-

-          solar air heating, which is an abundant renewable source at peak cooling demand

-          vapour compression using a zero GWP refrigerant

-          indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) with separate flow paths so non-potable water can be used

-          improved heat exchange to reduce the cost and energy required by the compressor

-          a new type of fan with high pressure and volume, and low noise level and power consumption

The individual components of the system - solar air heating (SAH), vapour compression (VC) and IEC, synergize beautifully. SAH increases the efficiency of IEC, even in higher humidity conditions, which in turn pre-cools the refrigerant in the condenser thereby optimizing VC’s efficiency at high ambient temperatures. In this way, SAH overcomes the limitations of IEC while IEC overcomes the limitations of VC, and because the evaporative cooler is indirect (two separate air flows), the IEC can use waste water from the building without affecting air quality or depleting water supply.

(Note that solar air heating will also improve the function of the vapour compression system for heating mode as well.

Adapting to potentially dangerous heat conditions necessitates affordable cooling to maintain global health and productivity. This needs to be achieved responsibly without warming or drying the planet further and with an equitable wage ratio from profits and fair labor practices as its foundation.

Sojol is seeking partnerships who align with our philosophy to take these products into the marketplace. Solarjoule IP Holdings Ltd enacts through Sojol Ltd to offer this patented range of energy efficient technologies based on agreement to be concluded with any interested clients.
